Recent Recalls of Pet Treats Due to Thyroid Hormones

 In Animal Care, Canine

Knowing what we are putting into our dogs’ bodies is important to their overall health. During the last few months, there have been dog treat recalls due to elevated thyroid hormone levels. These levels are not safe for consumption by dogs.

Symptoms of elevated thyroid hormone consumption are:

  • Weight loss
  • Restlessness
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Increased heart rate
  • Cardiac arythmias
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Labored breathing
  • Shaking

Symptoms usually go away soon after consumption of the treats has stopped.

Two brands that have been affected are Milo’s Kitchen and Merrick’s. Both companies have issued recalls for their treats. You can click on the following two links to see more specific information about which treats of theirs have been recalled.
